It’s hard not to love the wines of Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler, their wines are as soulful as they are. The labels are in the design of Jugendstil (“Art Nouveau” in French), a nod to the period in time when the Mosel was at the peak of prosperity and status. While Riesling has lost some of this status worldwide to Parkerized Reds, the vineyards remain some of the best in the world and the Mosel is the beating heart.
Trarbacher Trocken comes from the Schlossberg and Taubenhaus vineyards, at a mere 10% alcohol and only 1 g of sugar, featherweight, salty and incisive, yet full of complexity - delicate herbal notes of greengage, mint, smoke, tar, fine spices, almond, and lime. The wine starts a little reductive so give it some time to air out, once it does the bottle will empty much faster than expected.
On its own or paired with some freshly shucked oysters, this is……….a necessity of life.
