Bobal, a ubiquitously planted Spanish grape variety often makes meager and uninteresting wines not because of the inherent dullness of the grape, but rather because most producers of Bobal focus on quantity rather than quality. Vera de Estenas, thankfully, follows a different playbook.
This wine comes from 100 year old vines, farmed organically and fermented and aged in concrete ( concrete preserves the fruit, in our opinion). A "sun kissed" red with warm, ripe fruit flavors mixed with a good dose of spice and earthiness. A steal for $16!
Pairs beautifully with farmy goat cheeses and grilled bison burgers.
