Katahdin Woods and Waters was the first International Dark Sky Place certified in the state of Maine with some of the darkest night skies east of the Mississippi River. Each year, Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters hosts an event called Stars Over Katahdin featuring campfire chats to educate and inspire visitors before viewing the night skies through state-of-the-art telescopes.
