A beautiful exhibit of what Roland Tauss means when talking about energy in wine – this one really grabs you with a smoky, citrusy magnetism and doesn’t let you go.
The Weissburgunder, aka Pinot Blanc, is hand-harvested and destemmed with malolactic fermentations happening spontaneously. Bottled without fining or filtration, and no sulfur added.
Roland Tauss is making wine in the cool, rainy southern Austrian region of Styria. These bucolic rolling hills are often referred to as the Tuscany of Austria for their beauty, along with their chalky marl sub soils, here called Opok.
