$53.00

Whenever we are presented with a wine like the 2017 Luigi Oddero Barolo "Convento" that punches way above its class, we go long — meaning, we try to buy as much as we can to slake our thirst and yours.

The Odder "Convento" Barolo is made only in the most exceptional vintages such as 2017.

Several weeks ago when we tasted the wine for the first time,  it had all of the qualities we love of a Barolo ready to drink now: beautiful, gentle aromas of red jerry, oregano, thyme and anise. The palate isn't heavy or overbearing, but impactful and displays a creamy, smooth texture with that classic and refreshing Italian bite.

2017 was a very good vintage that made ripe Barolos with extremely satiny textures. When our supplier told us that we could get a wine of this quality from a benchmark Barolo producer to our customers for under $50….our head spun.

The knock against drinking young Barolo is that the tannin can be so intense that it overwhelms the experience and diminishes all the other components of the wine.

The 2017 Convento Barolo, however, is in a more mature phase where the youthful tannins have melted into balance, creating a harmonious wine where each dimension from start to finish is synchronized, crystalline, and well rounded.

With the holidays around the corner, this wine must be in your repertoire for gifting, serving, and enjoying.
