Owned and operated by husband and wife, Evan and Sarah Martin, since 2009, Martin Woods’ small team farms according to wholistic principles and the growers they partner with are of the same mindset.
The Martins believe true expression of terroir should include barrels made from local trees, which they make from the trees on their property. Using Oregon oak barrels to age wines allows less oxygen to permeate into the wine and less evaporation from the barrel — a major reason why the Martin Woods wines stay tight, fresh and energetic.
“For us, extreme attentiveness allows us to be hands-off with the wines; to be natural in our approach and at the same time produce unfiltered wines that are clean, classic, deeply compelling and long-lived.”
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the focus of their portfolio, but Riesling, Gruner, Gamay, Cabernet Franc and Syrah are more than proving extremely exciting for exploration.
