Grower of
Frédéric Savart is a farmer and a bonafide wine geek. He has the taste and the touch! Constantly evolving, as we all should strive to do, Fred is making almost a dozen wines from just 4 hectares.
Frédéric was born into a family of vignerons, but his real dream was to be a professional footballer. He even signed a youth contract with Stade de Reims, but he decided to return home to work with his father, Daniel, who had taken over the family estate from his father!
Since 2005, Frédéric has been at the helm of the estate, working with two varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. His farming and winemaking cannot be generalized easily—he’s fiercely independent and driven by curiosity, openness, and the pursuit of deliciousness as he defines.
The Financial Times described Savart’s Champagne operation as “Part garage, part winery, part morning-after-a-party” - the Savart digs are low-fi. He’s kinda punk — our kinda dude.
Savart’s wines are incisive, clear cut, incandescent, and are an incredible vehicle of terroir if you feel how we do about the transportive nature of place. Many of his wines age slowly in barrel, given them, in our opinion, more there there.
While you can and should enjoy his wines in a jovial setting, these are also incredible “food wines,” deserving of a beautiful meal. Some of his more robust offerings pair nicely with a cast-iron rib eye.
Do not miss these wines—they are significant, profoundly expressive, and made by a really cool cat.
