2021 Stein Elbling "Ewald" Vineyard Project 001

Ewald Scherrer is 83 years old; he is the toughest of the vineyard workers.

In 1951, at 14 years of age, Ewald and his father planted less than half an acre of own-rooted Elbling vines high up in the Mosel valley. These wines are trained on single poles, the traditional Mosel way.

Ulli Stein (born the same year this vineyard was planted) had seen nothing like this in his decades of working the Mosel. With Ewald’s permission, Stein made wine from this vineyard – roughly 42 cases in total.
