The married couple of Silke Wolf and Hans-Bert Espe are making unpretentious, delicate, sateen Pinot Noir with beautiful clarity. ‘Shelter’ comes from the time they made wine in an old Canadian airfield in Lahr, Germany. They now run a simple and efficient winery — their cellar is naturally insulated in the earth, with a garden and wild flowers on top.
100% Pinot Noir. This rosé is bright and terroir driven, with an earthy minerality. A shell of a snail in the vineyard inspired the label.
Shelter is just north of the volcanic hills of Kaiserstuhl in Germany’s Baden Region. Low intervention methods and the Black Forest cool temps influence the wine. Pair with Mediterranean grilled vegetables.
