This wine displays all the virtues which made us fall in love with Jura red wine nearly 20 years ago: light, incandescent, peppery, fruity, non tannin, intensely aromatic, low abv. An additional cherry on top is the subtle prickle on the palate that gives this beauty an extra liveliness.
Domaine Rijckaert was founded by Jean Rijckaert in 1998. Jean spent the better part of that decade working as technical director for the noted Mâcon negociant Verget before deciding to start his own project.
Unlike many Burgundians, Jean always had his eyes pointed east towards the Jura. At that time, you could could afford 10 acres of great terroir in the Jura without a boatload of cash. Things have changed, but compared to Burgundy, the Jura still offers a range of wines very much attainable to most wine lovers. This Domaine follow all the best practices but they aren't the cool kids on instagram therefor you can actually find these wines with a decent level of regularity and also at a much more approachable price point. There are some Jura cool cats who sell their Poulsards for $60-70 per bottle yet this wine at under $40 can very easily sit at the same table as the rest.
