Full time history teacher and a hobby winemaker on the side? Yes, this is the life of Raphael Monnier. He crafts lovely natural wines using local varieties to the jura for his estate wines and for the "Avis de Tempete"( which means storm warning) is his line of negociant wines where he sources grapes from other regions using similar low fi approach but using the same meticulous techniques. His reason for doing a side project is simple: the Jura has been decimated over the years with issues of frost which destroys production levels and threatens the life of many estates. Being able to make wine from other regions during difficult years helps Raphael to continue his " hobby" job.
